Pruebas diagnósticas específicas para la detección de microorganismos

Specific diagnostic tests for the detection of microorganisms

Tropical countries are characterized by a high frequency of infectious diseases, caused by viruses, fungi, bacteria and parasites. These microorganisms are found everywhere: on land, in fresh and salt water, at the bottom of the ocean and in the air. Every day we eat, drink and breathe. However, despite their apparent overwhelming presence, they rarely invade, multiply and produce infection in humans. Even when they do, the infection is sometimes so mild that it does not cause any symptoms.

In fact, there are few microorganisms capable of causing diseases. Many of them live on the skin, in the mouth, in the respiratory tract, in the intestine and in the genitals. The one that remains as a harmless companion or invades and causes a disease in the host, depends on the nature of the microorganism and the defenses of the human body.

Infectious diseases are usually caused by microorganisms that invade the body and multiply. Invasion is usually initiated by adherence to the cells of the affected person. This process is very specific and involves links between the human cell and the microorganism, similar to those of a key with its lock. Whether it remains near the point of invasion or extends to distant points depends on factors such as the production of toxins, enzymes or other substances.

Some microorganisms that invade the body produce toxins (poisons that affect nearby or distant cells). Most of these have components that bind specifically with molecules of certain cells (target cells), where they cause the disease.

For this reason, Molecular Biology has implemented specific diagnostic tests for the detection of these microorganisms, with the intention of decreasing the diagnostic response time in the different infectious pathologies that affect the different systems of the organism. In addition, the specificity and sensitivity of these tests allow multiplexes to be designed (different microorganisms in an assay), according to the prevalence and the system where the pathology occurs, for which, Novafem fertility and genetics medical center in the company of Celagem have designed the following multiplexes according to the study area
